The area of the dining room/living room would be 2x+5 (because that's the width) and the length of the room is the length or the patio (x+5) plus the length of the rest of the room which is given to you and is x. So (2x+5) times [(x+5) + x] = 300.
Then to set it equal to zero, subtract three hundred from both sides.
[(2x+5) * (x+5+x)] - 300 = 0
