we live in a condo and we are putting in laminate floors, our rules only allow laminate wood flooring in entry way, kitchen kitchen nook and bathroom. now our kitchen nook/dining room is connected by a bar. the they are open to each other via over the counter top. the huge counter top flows into a bar which on the other side sites a small table and bar stools up to the counter... is this considered a dining room or kitchen nook

how to set up a small space at home to draw?

It seems all my art supplies are all over the place and it is a pain to get things out to draw or paint. I bought a small table top easel. Any ideas for a small space?

Hi Mary, Like you, some of my supplies are in every room in my small apartment. I really would like to have a two bedroom apartment so the second bedroom could be my studio, but that isn't likely to happen. So, the best solution is to get yourself organized. I work in acrylics, paper arts like collage and make greeting cards using rubber stamps. I have a small chest of drawers on wheels, you know the type you get at WalMart in different sizes and I have almost all my stamping supplies in that particular piece. That way, I can work in the kitchen so I'm near a tap to rinse off my stamps. All my paper supplies, acrylic paints, card stock, glues and so on are in my bedroom in a seven foot bookcase. This keeps my supplies visible so I always can see what paper I have and when I'm getting low on certain colours. I have a drawing table over by the window with two lights attached to it and another plastic storage tower beside the table which holds all my coloured pens, pencils and markers. There is another table beside this where I do my cutting on and I use this table to create booklets. It's plastic so it wipes off nicely. My double dresser top serves as a drying place for canvases that I have just applied gesso to and am waiting for them to dry. I put a large piece of brown craft paper on this to keep the gesso off of my dresser. Forgot to mention, when I work in the kitchen with my stamping gear, I put a cheap shower curtain over the table to protect it from ink and so on. I keep a package of wipes with me to clean paint, glue or whatever off of my hands. Back in the bedroom, I have a small bookcase that holds all my art books that I go back to and read again and use as a reference. Old jam jars hold my paint brushes and the photo boxes that Michaels sells so cheaply are used for storage of threads, and different items that I don't use on a regular basis. These boxes fit into my large bookcase nicely. Under my bed and covered by the draping bedspread are two plastic boxes where I keep extra pens, writing paper, highlighters and so on. It is a little crowded, but that's all part of working on art in an apartment that is about 500 square feet. Hope this gives you the information you're looking for! While it would be nice to have a professional studio with lots of room, you can make art anywhere if your heart is really into it.
