We only want the chair rail in the dining room.
How do you end the chair rail kinda mid wall(between the living room and dining room), with out it looking stupid?

There are many ways to end it. My favorite would be to taper the end with a router. To enhance the rail you might take a router table and run a design down the center of the rail makeing sure to run it down the taper also. Another way would be to run a wall board devider up the wall at the end of the chair rail. You could use the same material as the chair rail and it would give you good definition between rooms.

How to integrate dining area into living room?

I live in a small apartment and the dining area is virtually part of the living room. I have a small rectangular wooden table (antique) that isn't especially attractive. How can I make this look more attractive? The dining chairs are small and very pretty Victorian. My furnishing style is a blend of modern (mostly leather) with antique.

1] an area rug about three feet bigger than the table, to set off dining area. [ oriental, flowered, etc. ]
