I'm going on a cruise in July, i have 6 pm set, which do you prefer and why? (Asking because of activities on the ship, shows, and getting ready in time for dinner)
Answer
you do not have MTD, you have Traditional.
MTD is any time the MDR is open.
Traditional has 2 seatings, early and late.
we prefer Late seating when we are on Traditional. less kids being the biggest reason, with being less rushed the second biggest. on early, the move a little faster to get you out so they can set up for late seating.
there will be 2 shows a night, for each seating. generally speaking, if you are on late seating you attend the early show before dinner, although nothing requires you to ONLY attend then, you could go the second show if you wanted.
since we seldom do any heavy duty shore stuff, getting ready has never been a problem, although it is not unheard of to opt for room service, the buffet or even making a reservation in one of the specialty restaurants if that works out better for you.
the only thing that is pretty much a requirement, is that if you will NOT be in the MDR for your reservation, to please inform either your servers, your seat mates or the Maitre D' so they do not wait around for you to arrive.

Question about setting up seating areas in our home renovation...?
Full-time
We are about to embark on a huge home renovation and I'm having a difficult time deciding how to set up our seating areas. Our house is set up w/ the kitchen, breakfast area, and dining room all in a line (in that order).
I know, for sure, that we will be having a booth built into our bay window for a breakfast nook. This is a large window, so w/ the booth and a couple chairs on the opposite side, this will easily seat 6 people. My problem is, I don't know whether I should have an island w/ barstools in the kitchen and use the breakfast nook as our primary source for dining or have an actual dining room table in our dining room and use the breakfast nook for, well, breakfast.
The issue lies in the fact that these three rooms run in a line and although there will be a wall between the breakfast area and dining room, you would be able to see all three seating areas in one line of vision (and having all three might be a little much). We don't entertain much, but a large seating area will be necessary for our growing family.
So, my question is, if you had to choose, would you do the dining room table and the breakfast nook or the island w/ barstools and the breakfast nook? Keep in mind that the breakfast nook's seating would accomodate 6, as well as the dining room table. Thanks for taking the time to help me!
Answer
It depends on how formal you want to be. Although you say you don't entertain much, when you do, do you prefer a nice sit down dinner? If so, I'd go with the dining room option. If you all like to get up and move around and interact, I would go with the island and the bar stool option.
