We are planning a cruise on the Carnival Splendor this summer. Rummaging through information about dining from various sites, I seem to have a good understanding of the process (i.e. dinning times, main dining room vs other options, etc.). However, a few websites commented that we may be seated with other guests at an assigned table AND the server may wait to see if all guests for a given table show up.
Here is the question: If we opt for an alternative dinning method (e.g. Lido Deck, room service, etc.), how is the main dining room informed of this change (so as not to cause the other guests unnecessary waiting)? Is it true the server tends to wait or is this misinformation?

If you opt for the main dining room and the set times (usually 6 or 8pm) you could be assinged a table with other guests. They do try to put you with someone your own age though. They do NOT wait on the other guests assigned to your table to show up before starting the dining process. When you show up they get your drinks and give you a menu. If someone shows up late, they will get ther drinks and menus when they get there. We showed up about 15 minutes late one time and it was no problem, the other people had already ordered, and we were given our menus and allowed to order.
Just because you have that dining option doesnt mean you HAVE to eat dinner there every night, and some people NEVER do. So no, they dont wait.
We were at a table for 8 and one couple only showed up the first and last night, and two seats were always empty (maybe nobody was assigned to them). Mostly it was just us and one other couple who were really nice. We got along with them pretty good, and even hung out with them a few times during the cruise.

It depends on the restaurant and their policy. I've seen places with 6 people, 8 people and even 10 people. Then some places do not add on the tip no matter how much the party is. There is no set number. It is a restaurant based decision.
