i really don't think so.
if you look at the videos of past winners, there is no orchestra.
these concerts are in the weill recital hall, part of carnegie hall.
this hall holds like 250+ people, and the stage isnt that big. i don't think you could fit a full late 1800's size orchestra there for the big concertos.
and if you look at the programs from past years, most people are not playing concertos.
and there are like 25-30 winners at each concert, so you know they are not playing complete pieces. participants are limited to 7 minutes.
if you look at the way this is run, its not one of those competitions with a small number of winners, linked to a local orchestra that will accompany the winner and bring an external audience.
if you do the math...
you pay $150 to apply in the first place.
each winner has to pay $250 to play in the recital.
winners pay all their own expenses to get there and find somewhere to stay.
if you dont play in the recital, you are disqualified (so you cant even say you won, someone replaces you)
each winner gets 5 tickets for friends and family, and they can buy more if they want.
each concert seems to have 25-30 winners.

25x5= 125 tickets presold to participants. from the videos, it doesnt look like the hall gets sold out.
25x($100+$250) = $8750 collected in fees from winners, not counting registration fees from those who dont win.
one winner gets a $1000 prize?
weill hall afternoon rental fee is ... around $2000? $2500?
it looks to be a pretty self contained operation.
seems like the winners get what they pay for.

it is an opportunity, and its something to put on your resume.
and from the videos, it looks like some really talented musicians end up there.
but i'm not sure how much credibility you get from it...
for comparison, a well respected concerto competition in my city charges a registration fee of $50-$80
the participants play in front of a live judge who will give them tips and critiques.
