My style has changed since I bought this china cabinet, table and chairs but they are in great condition. Not cheap furniture and I am alittle scared that I could really screw this up. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I will have to reupholster the chairs so any tips on that would be helpful too. I think i will use an oil based paint...but what about a primer or a sealer?

Answer
sand, or degloss the existing finish. prime with a bonding/stain blocking primer, tinted to deep gray, then apply 2 to 3 coats of paint. spraying it would give the best finish, but if you must brush and or roll, add penetrol to oil based paint or floetrol to latex, to provide a self leveling component( to reduce brush marks).
honestly, i would get pricing from a local industrial painter who could spray it all. you would get the best finish that way, and it would be no work for you.

What chairs for dining table?

My mother in law gave us a dining table - it is two pieces; the stand and the table top. Both are solid marble, light gray colored. It is a very heavy, nice piece of furniture. What chairs would go best with this? What style/theme would you classify this as?
Yes, exactly! We have these old wooden chairs with it right now and they are so very wrong. Thank you!

Answer
You could also go with upholstered parsons chairs, but I agree that regular wooden chairs would look "off".
